The Company
Flüssigboden Engineering GmbH is a second-generation family business with locations in Leipzig, Frankfurt, and Freiburg. The company is recognized as one of the leading innovators in underground infrastructure and specialty foundation engineering.
Their patented process enables the reuse of locally available soil, reducing transportation, noise, and emissions while cutting transport and disposal costs by up to 80%. The result is a substantial innovation with measurable environmental and economic impact.
The Challenge
Flüssigboden Engineering regularly files new patents and continuously invests in research and development. However, applying for the R&D tax allowance requires precise documentation, both in substance and format, covering everything from the research concept to the accounting preparation.
For an operationally driven company, this presents a particular challenge: the technical expertise is there, but preparing the funding application ties up capacity that simply isn't available in day-to-day operations.
Working with re:fund
re:fund took full ownership of the application process, from structuring the documentation to coordinating with the administrative and accounting teams. This allowed Flüssigboden Engineering to focus on contributing the technical content without having to manage the process itself. Companies typically invest no more than 6 to 10 hours of their own time. re:fund handles the rest.
The primary contact was Elisabeth Teske, COO at re:fund. Her guidance throughout the process was reliable, clear, and straightforward. Here's what Mr. Stolzenburg had to say:
"Elisabeth should just keep doing exactly what she's doing."
– Wolf-Hagen Stolzenburg, Managing Director
The Result
For the second consecutive year, Flüssigboden Engineering has successfully applied for the R&D tax allowance together with re:fund. In both cases, the BSFZ reviewed the innovations and recognized them as eligible for funding. A third application is already in the works.
